Hi all, last week I spoke to you about General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Here is a brief summary of what it is all about. I will be in touch again about it means for the parish. Pat.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Because of impending requirement to comply with new date protection legislation, we have compiled s synopsis of requirements under the legislation, as we currently understand them. We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new EU law that comes into effect on 25 May 2018. These new regulations apply to organisations and individuals, including small businesses that process personal date. The Irish Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) has stated that "Every company is now a data company...". Personal data is any information related to an identified individual, including names, addresses and other specific items that identify an individual. Processing of personal data covers many different uses of personal data in either electronic or physical format, including collecting, recording, storing, adapting, using, disclosing and deleting data. Therefore, processing personal data is storing the personal data of members electronically or in hard copy.
There are wide powers to enforce compliance and significant administrative fines for non-compliance and individuals may seek redress from organisations for material and non-material damage suffered because of a breach of the GDPR Data controllers and processors maybe liable for damage caused by a breach of GDPR.
It is now necessary to:
1. Obtain and process the information fairly
2. Keep it only for one or more specified and lawful purposes
3. Process it only in ways compatible with the purposes for which it was given to you initially
4. Data should be safe and secure
5. Data should be accurate and up-to-date
6. Data should be adequate, relevant and not excessive
7. The data should be retained no longer than is necessary for the specified purpose or purposes
8. Give a copy of his/her personal data to any individual, on request.

What does Data Protection Legislation mean to an individual?: The legislation sets out rules about how this information (personal Information) can be obtained, how it can be used and how it is stored. Every person must give their consent for their data to be collected and processed for a specific purpose which must be communicated to them at the time the data is obtained. They must specifically Opt-In and must be allowed to Opt-Out at any time. They must also be given the opportunity to review the consent they have given on a regular basis (i.e Yearly). Data must be kept safe and secure and must be kept accurate and up to date. An Individual can request a copy of all of the personal information held about them (this is called a Subject Access Request) and must be allowed to have all of their data deleted or returned to them, if they so wish.

First Friday Toames
Hi all,
For some time the poor attendance at First Friday Mass in Toames has been a concern of mine. Currently the time for the Mass is 7 pm. It was at 8 pm and I moved it back to 6.30 pm. Attendance has not improved. To my mind for its viability, more than 5 people in regular attendance would
be acceptable. I need suggestions of time and location for the Mass to continue. On the last First Friday, attendance was 1. We already have Mass and Adoration at Johnstown at 10am on a Friday morning which is well attended. I need suggestions of time and maybe a change of venue for First Friday evening Mass. Please drop them in at Parochial House or by email to news@kilmichael.org
Regards, Pat.

Kilmichael Community Development Club On Tuesday evening, 12th June, the Kilmichael Community Development Club were in attendance at The Restaurant at the Five Roads in Terelton, to present certificates to those who completed the CPR course in conjunction with the recent installation of Defibrillators in Kilmichael Parish. We were honoured and grateful, to have in attendance, and to present the certificates, our County Mayor, Cllr Declan Hurley, Cork Co Cllr Gobnait Moynihan, and Kevin O'Sullivan Operations Manager National Ambulance Service, HSE. To date, 16 people have completed the CPR course, and another 16 candidates are lined up on 19th June to follow suit, of what has been a phenomenal response from the people of Kilmichael Parish. The enthusiasm and community spirit shown towards this project has been outstanding and the club would like again, to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved, and hope that this is the beginning of a bright future for this club and its future projects and developments. We hope that the success of this project might also help to initiate other clubs, in other towns and parishes, to take on board this vital CPR training and to help improve the statistics of life saving CPR. Our County Mayor also informed the club members that €500 has been immediately secured from the original €4000 grant application, and ended the night on a very positive note. Sincere thanks to everyone involved.

           SIGNS OF RAIN

The hollow winds begin to blow,                             Winds
The clouds look black, the glass is low,                 Clouds and barometer.
The soot falls down, the spaniels sleep,                Soot
And spiders from their cobwebs peep.                  Spiders

Last night the sun went pale to bed,                      Sunset
The moon in halos hid her head;                            Moon
The boding shepherd heaves a sigh,
For see! A rainbow spans the sky.                          Rainbow
The walls are damp, the ditches smell,                  Walls and ditches
Closed is the pink-eyed pimpernel.                        Pimpernel
Hark! How the chairs and tables crack.                 Chairs
Old Betty's joints are on the rack;                          Joints - arthritis
Her corns with shooting pains torment her,        Corns
And to her bed untimely send her.

Loud quack the ducks, the peacocks cry,            Ducks, peacocks
The distant hills are looking nigh.                           Hills looking nearer
How restless are the snorting swine!                     Pigs
The busy flies disturb the kine.                                Flies
Low o'er the grass the swallow wings;                 Swallow
The cricket, too, how sharp he sings!                   Cricket
Puss on the hearth, with velvet paws,                   Cat
Sits wiping o'er her whiskered jaws.
Through the clear stream the fishes rise,              Fishes
And nimbly catch the incautious flies.
The glow -worms, numerous and bright,               Glow-worms
Illumed the dewy dell last night.
At dusk the squalid toad was seen                         Toad
Hopping and crawling o'er the green.
The whirling dust the wind obeys,                           Dust
And in the rapid eddy plays.
The frog has changed his yellow vest,                   Frog
And in a russet coat is dressed.
Though June, the air is cold and still,                     Air
The merry blackbirds note is shrill;                        Blackbird

My dog, so altered in his taste,                                Dog
Quits mutton bones on grass to feast.
And see, yon rooks, how odd their flight,             Rooks
They imitate the gliding kite,
And seem precipitate to fall,
As if they felt the piercing ball -                               Musket shot
"twill surely rain – I see with sorrow
Our jaunt must be put off tomorrow.

Skibbereen Heritage Centre is creating a collection of stories entitled "West Cork: Stories of the Revolution, 1916 - 1923". These stories will form an archive to be kept for future generations. They are asking the children of the senior classes in six West Cork schools to contribute this year and Dromleigh N.S is one of those schools.
At present the children are busy talking to their relatives and neighbours and gathering some wonderful, never before recorded stories. Some examples are tales of "safe houses", narrow escapes and war heroes. We would be delighted if there were more people in the locality who might like to contribute. Have you any information that might be passed on through the generations in your family? Remember your stories would then be recorded for posterity and the children are most enthusiastic.If you would like to help please ring the school 026 46212, email dromleighns@gmail.com or call or talk to anyone associated with the school.

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And- which is more - you’ll be a Man, my son!
