Hi All,
Do you know your Eircode? I will admit, I don’t. An ambulance was called to a house in the parish recently. Ambulance delayed as no one knew what the Eircode is or where to find it. I would suggest we all l earn our Eircodes and put them up on a prominent place in our homes where everyone can see them. Pat.

On behalf of The Irish Blood Transfusion Service Please pass on our thanks to all who contributed to the running of this Clinic. 246 Donors attended our Blood Donor Clinic in The Riverside Park Hotel. This generosity and commitment to helping others is very much appreciated.

Dromleigh N.S Congratulations to the fourth, fifth and sixth class pupils who have been chosen as the best overall school in the Cork County Council and Skibbereen Heritage Centre Local History Project. During the first term the children researched local stories from 1916 to 1922 and came up with some amazing often unknown tales from the era. Many were incidents from the aftermath of Kilmichael Ambush but others covered a wide area around Mid and West Cork. The result was a series of wonderful projects and stories. The school got a surprise visit from the Mayor of Cork, Patrick Gerard Murphy on his last day in office to receive the prize. It was a great honour for the school and its pupils to win such a prestigious competition. We wish to acknowlege and thank all of those in the Kilmichael Community who reached out to us with their stories. They will now be archived and will be available for future generations to read. Go raibh míle maith agaibh.

Kilmichael Historical Society - Prayers at St. Michael's Well 7pm Sunday 29th September. Sunday 29th September is the feast of St. Michael (Michaelmas). In times past this feast was a time of great festivities in the parish of Kilmichael (which is dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel). Schools closed for the day. Rounds were performed at St. Michael's Well, Cooldaniel and Kilmichael Old Cemetery, Moneycusker. This was followed by celebrations in a field across the road from Cooldorrihy Church. People flocked there to meet friends and to partake in the parish sports and sideshows. These traditions have now died out but to remember the day prayers will be recited at St. Michael's Well, Cooldaniel at 7pm. All are welcome.

Liz Lucey Memorial Run Recently the presentation of the monies raised on the 14th of July from the Final Liz Lucey Memorial Run were presented to Marymount Hospice. Ann O'Mahoney a volunteer fundraiser from Marymount came out to collect the cheque which we are delighted to say amounted to an amazing €20,660.30. This brought the grand total over the past 10 years to €152,553. The organisers wish to extend a huge thanks to everyone who contributed to our event in any way over the past 10 years. To all those who donated baking and sandwiches and spot prizes we are grateful, to those who helped out on the day i.e. stewards, ticket sellers and tea ladies huge thanks. To all the local organisations who allowed us use their facilities, the hall, Uibh Laoire GAA and Kilmichael Vintage. To Valley Wheelers for facilitating and organising the cycle. Huge thanks to all the business both locally and nationally who donated towards our event in any way. And finally a huge thanks to each and every person who participated in the event and donated. The Liz Lucey Memorial drive walk and cycle has really become a community affair and is one that has brought the parish of Uíbh Laoire together. It embodies community spirit and promotes the strengthening of bonds between different organisations. Having fun and craic is what it promoted and it offered a chance for neighbours to meet up and have the cuppa and a chat while, at the same time, supporting a great cause. While this has been declared the final Liz Lucey Memorial Run, we hope that some other group will come on board to organise another event that will continue to tap in to the good will, kindness and generosity typical of the area. For any questions regarding future events contact any member of the Committee.

Hi all,
Last Tuesday, 22nd October the Bell in Toames church was reinstated after an absence of many years. The Bell was originally cast in the Sheridan Foundry in Dublin in 1856. It bears the inscription ERIN GO BRAGH, Ireland Forever with the Irish Harp surrounded by a wreath of shamrock. It will ring primarily for funerals. I will put photos on parish website. Pat.
The bell was cast at the Sheridan foundry, also called the Eagle Foundry located in Church Street, Dublin. The premises had originally been occupied by another iron founders, the Pounden family, as early as 1755, but was taken over by James Sheridan who re-named it in 1809. James passed it on to his sons, Thomas and George, in 1859. Bells continued to be cast until 1888 when the Byrne Bell Foundry of James Street, Dublin took over bell casting for the Sheridans.
If you want to see it online - look up 'Sheridan Bell Foundry, Dublin'

Details about Bell at Toames Church
The bell was cast at the Sheridan foundry, also called the Eagle Foundry located in Church Street, Dublin. The premises had originally been occupied by another iron founders, the Pounden family, as early as 1755, but was taken over by James Sheridan who re-named it in 1809. James passed it on to his sons, Thomas and George, in 1859. Bells continued to be cast until 1888 when the Byrne Bell Foundry of James Street, Dublin took over bell casting for the Sheridans.
