ARCHIVE: A LOOK BACK AT THE ORIGINS OF SHANACASHEL COMMUNITY CENTRE
On Wednesday Feb 1st 2012 a meeting was convened in Shanacashel Community Centre and a Committee was formed with the aim of reviving interest in the Centre as recreational and educational facility. Minutes preserved from the original Shanacashel Community Association, which developed the building out of the ruins of the former Shanacashel National School, were reviewed. In February 1984 Fr Cremin, then curate in Kimichael, invited any interested parties to meet in Johnstown school in order to discuss the possibility of restoring the Shanacashel building for use as a Community Centre and establishing a Community Association. The photos below, from Fr Cremin's archive, record some of the early progress.
