KILMICHAEL GAA LOTTO
With effect from Sunday, 1st February 2009, the Weekly Lotto will now take place on Sunday nights.

PARISH CHILD PROTECTION REPRESENTATIVES
In December 2007 Bishop Buckley sent a letter to every parish in the diocese announcing the planned appointment of Parish Child Protection Representatives in each parish. The role of these representatives will be to ensue that all information about child protection procedures will be available in each parish, thus ensuring that each parish is committed to best practice in respect of children and young people. People who may be interested in becoming such representatives are invited to give their names to the parish office, any member of the Parish Assembly or the Parish Priest by February 3rd., 2009. All those interested will be welcome to attend one of the following information evenings:
Mon Feb 9th, Oriel House 7.30 to 9.30 pm
Tue Feb 10th, West Cork Hotel, 7.30 to 9.30 pm.

After the information evening, those who wish to continue will then be invited to make a commitment by filling out various forms and returning them to their Parish Priest who will send them to the Bishop’s office. These forms are an Application form, a Self-declaration form and a Garda Vetting form.
They will also be asked to provide proof of identity and to submit the names of two people from whom references can be sought.
An informal meeting/interview with the volunteers will be held by the Parish Priest accompanied by another person, to help determine their suitability. Questions regarding their motivation, experience in this area, etc. could be explored.
Garda vetting usually takes about six weeks, which means that there is a gap of that length between processing the forms and the Training Weekend at which the role will be explored more fully.

The program will be a time of reflection on the spiritual journey of the great saints and the ups and downs they faced in their own faith life. Gerry will provide brief commentary for each stage of the journey, followed by songs that bring us to prayerful contemplation, deepening our understanding of the presence of God in the lives of the saints as well as in our own lives.
The presentation will last about an hour.

Gerry Dignan has been a minister of Church Music in Chicago for a number of years. Gerry has an advanced degree in Pastoral Studies from Loyola, a Catholic University in Chicago. Please come. Enjoy the music and the time to reflect on your own spiritual journey.

Are you looking for more from your marriage?
Whether you have been married one year or forty years, it is possible to recharge the batteries of your marriage. Like everything else in life, marriage goes better if it receives a little care and attention, but, with the pace of modern life, we find it difficult to take time out for our marriage.
We assume things will always be well between us and perhaps they are. It may also mean sweeping things under the carpet and hoping they will go away. But that is settling for good when we have the opportunity to have a great marriage.
Marriage Encounter runs weekend events for couples that really deliver the goods. The next weekend will take place in the Lake Hotel Killarney on the 13th – 15th November ‘09. You could find out more by looking at their website
www.marriageencounter.ie,
or by contacting 064-6644319, 086-8334382 or 087-6670418. If you have the wisdom to invest in your most important relationship it will provide an excellent return.

Last Thursday, November 26th, did indeed turn out to be an historic day in the history of Tirelton National School when the school’s football team won their first ever County Sciath na Scol Football title defeating a very worthy opponent in Ballyvongane N.S. Despite the recent heavy rain, Páirc Uí Chaoimh was in excellent condition and what a thrill it was at about 12.45 when Tirelton emerged from the tunnel and raced on to the field to a great cheer from our huge group of supporters. Having gone through the pre-match routine of team introductions, photographs and warm-up, the game began. Displaying great focus and concentration, Tirelton played with a superb level of confidence, purpose and teamwork and led by seven points at halftime. Two goals early in the second half set them on the road for ultimate glory, and though Ballyvongane narrowed the margin to five points at one stage, two late points sealed the victory for Tirelton. It was indeed a very proud moment for everyone when captain Kevin Murphy led the panel up those famous steps to receive the cup, along with individual medals for each player. After some more photographs it was then time to head for the Oriel Court Hotel, where everyone enjoyed some post match refreshments and the chance to discuss and analyse the triumph. Indeed such was the support for the school, that extra seating had to be brought in to accommodate the crowd. It was just one of those great days in the school’s and in the community’s life. Great thanks are due to the many people who contributed to the occasion in so many different ways and particularly those who took time to decorate the village with colourful banners and signs. It made the whole day one never to be forgotten.
The victorious panel was:
Shauna Buckley (Ardnaneen)
Gavin Murray (Ballina)
James Cohalan & Conor Kelly (Greenville)
Kevin Murphy (Kielnarovanagh)
Jamie & Alan McCarthy, Trevor & Shelly Tobin (Knockane)
Luke Hennigan (Moneycusker)
