15th March 2020 3rd Sunday in Lent
Hi All,
We are now living in unprecedented times. I refer you to Bishop Fintan Gavin’s statement issued at 20.25 on 12th March, 2020. As you can see he has issued instructions regarding all Masses around the dioceses until further notice. Weekday Masses will continue as normal on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I would ask everyone to wash their hands regularly and before and after Mass. I will wash mine before giving our Communion. I will celebrate Mass privately in my house on Sunday 15th at 10 am for all of you and also on St. Patrick’s Day at same time. This will also be the case until further notice on Sundays. When it comes to funerals, please observe and respect family wishes that may be published in the death notice. The newsletter will continue to be published and distributed to Collins, Kilmichael Bar & Shop; Foleys Five Roads, Terelton; Dariygold, Terelton, Harringtons shop, Terelton and Dromeys, Dromcarra. I am available on my own phone 086 6798781 or landline 026 46813. Please check www.kilmichael.org for any further updates.
Regards, Fr. Pat.
Bishop Fintan Gavin’s statement:
“In light of this in the Diocese of Cork and Ross, all public Weekend Masses will be discontinued until further notice. This also refers to Masses for St. Patrick’s Day.
I would ask you to celebrate Sunday Mass privately for the people of your parish and, where available, to have it broadcast via webcam. My hope is that the people of your parish, while not able to join you physically, could join you spiritually in that Mass.
As I said in my earlier e-mail, Mass will continue to be live-streamed from the Cathedral at www.corkcathedral.ie It is my hope to celebrate the 11.30 am Mass there each Sunday.
Funerals, weddings, baptisms and weekday Masses may continue as long as the attendance does not exceed 100 people.”
Yours sincerely in Christ,
Fintan Gavin, Bishop of Cork and Ross

26th April 2020 Second Sunday of Easter
Hi All,
On this Monday, 27th April the 5th & 6th class children from Dromleigh, St. Enda’s and Tirelton National schools were due to be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. First Holy Communions were due to take place in May. Because of the uncertainty around the lifting of restrictions with regard to gatherings of people it is impossible to say when we will be able to celebrate the sacraments.
The celebration of these sacraments has been deferred until such restrictions have been lifted and we will then look at setting new dates.
I am praying for you all every day and celebrating Mass everyday for your intentions. You can join me for Mass on the following days on ‘Kilmichael Parish’ Facebook live.
Stay safe everyone.

31st May 2020 PENTECOST
Hi All,
Last Wednesday and Thursday I marked the occasion of the Silver Jubilee of my Ordination and First Mass which took place in the Church of the Holy Family, Caheragh on the weekend of 3rd/4th June, 1995.
Twenty five years ago it was a wonderful day for my family, friends and myself, as well as the people of Caheragh parish, Bishop Buckley and all those who were involved with my training. Sadly ordination days are rare events nowadays. That Saturday there were three of us ordained for the Dioceses of Cork & Ross. They were Damian O’Mahony, James McSweeney and myself. Thankfully all of us are still working in the Dioceses.
In those 25 years, I have experienced much change and have had to adjust to the situations I’ve found myself in. I hope I can continue to do so.
There have been very busy interesting, challenging and fulfilling years. I have tried at all times to be true to myself and do the best I can for everyone.
I thank all those who have helped me through these years and hopefully I can look forward to another twenty five.
God’s blessings.
Pat.

21st June 2020 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Hi All,
I hope you are all keeping well. Thanks to all who have paid and been in contact with myself and Eileen regarding parish finances. It’s my view now as time goes by we could encourage the Direct Debit system of payment to the parish. More details to follow.
It seems that we will be returning to our churches for weekday Masses on Monday, 29th June and for weekend Masses on Saturday/Sunday 4th/5th July. Hand sanitisers have been set up at all entrance doors to the churches and I encourage you to use them. At the moment with two metre distancing we should not have any difficulties with the weekday Masses. The Sunday Masses might be a different story. I will be keeping up the online Masses on Facebook Live the for foreseeable future.
I ask now that when we go back to our churches that we use plenty of common sense and patience and we go back gradually. I do not want to be putting up unnecessary signs or having people telling others what to do, that you would take responsibility for yourselves.
We may have to introduce masks for the Ministers of Eucharist, we’ll wait and see on that one.
For now we will open up gradually.
Kindest regards and prayers.
Pat.

Hi All,
It gives me great pleasure to tell you that we will be opening our churches for Mass this week. I will have the pleasure of welcoming you all back to our public celebration of the Eucharist after three months of absence.
On the relevant days in the relevant churches, the doors will be open. I ask that you sanitise your hands at the doors and maintain social distance where you choose to sit in the pews. Use your common sense. When you come to Holy Communion, stay well back from me and everything will be fine. Weekday Masses will begin this week starting on Monday in Cooldorrihy, Wednesday in Toames and Friday in Johnstown at 10 am.
The weekend of Saturday/Sunday 4th/5th July, our weekend schedule return. Many will choose to stay away for the time being and will gradually return.
I will be resuming First Friday calls on next Friday, 3rd July.
Regards and best wishes to all of you.

Hi All,
Thankfully we are back with a full parish Mass schedule this weekend. I ask that you use your common sense, your intelligence and your care for one another as you come to our churches for Mass. If you come and see that a church is too full, stay outside or in your cars. I will be happy to bring communion to the church doors after Mass for everyone.
I ask that you sanitize your hands as you enter and leave. You can place your offering in the basket at the church doors as you leave as we cannot have internal collections in the usual way for now.
I am looking forward to welcoming you all and if I can be of any help give me a call, my contact details are on the newsletter.
Kindest regards and God’s blessings.
Pat.

12th JULY 2020 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Hi All,
Thankfully we are gradually getting back to some form of normality in our lives as the effects of Covid 19 continues to reduce in our country. We are back to our usual Mass times since last weekend. It is a pleasure to be able to extend a word of welcome to everyone. Sadly, due to the Covid 19 restrictions our space in the three churches is somewhat limited. However, all parts of our churches are available to everyone, you can sit up near me and you are also welcome to join us in the sacristy if you wish. I would encourage the use of face coverings coming to the church. We just go by the usual procedures we’ve all become used to. The Masses will continue on Facebook Live.
I want to extend a sincere word of thanks to all who have taken the trouble to keep up their contributions to the Parish Finances. Thankfully, we are managing to pay our bills. If you wish to go for Direct Debit or Standing Order, contact Eileen or myself and we will be happy to facilitate you.
These are very different times to what we have been used to. Things will continue to change and we have to continue to adapt to them. This is what we have been doing for thousands of years.
If anyone is experiencing difficulty in receiving us on Facebook Live, please contact Eileen or myself and we will do our best to help you.
Wishing you all God’s blessings and good health.
Pat.

19th JULY 2020 16th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Hi All,
I’m noticing that people are slowly coming back to Mass in our parish. From what I’m hearing as I meet people, many are slow about coming due to the ongoing threat of Corona Virus. This is very understandable. If you feel like coming you are very welcome. All I can say is come and see for yourself and if you feel safe, find a place in the church, if not stay in the porch or come into the sacristy areas. I would encourage the use of face coverings.
Sincere thanks to all who have so generously contributed to the parish finances.
You can continue to view and follow us on Facebook live at 10 am on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Kindest regards and God’s blessings.

26th JULY 2020 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Hi All,
I hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. I want to put out a word of encouragement to my friends working in agriculture to be always careful as you go about your work and keep your safety and the safety of others in mind. Serious injury can occur in a split second. Sometimes a small bit of careful planning and assessment of a situation can save a lot of bother later. This goes for everyone in any work situation.
Secondly, if anyone has Trócaire boxes or envelopes at home and you would like to contribute to Trócaire, bring them along to any of our three churches at weekday or weekend Masses and leave them in with us and I can send their contents to Trócaire.
Finally all the best to those getting ready for the upcoming Tour de Munster.
Kindest regards and God’s blessings.

Hi All,
In conversation with an undertaker friend in Cornwall in the UK, he reminded me of a conversation he had with an old catholic priest who told him:
‘You scorn your health in search of wealth
You work and toil and slave;
Then you scorn your wealth in search of health,
And find an open grave!
Kind regards to all.
Pat.

4th October 2020 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Hi All,
Thanks to everyone for your continued help and support during this time of Covid 19. Thanks for your use of face coverings during Masses. Sadly the figures in Cork continue to rise and I fear a partial lockdown at some time, but hope not. I encourage anyone that can come to the weekday Masses instead of Sunday to do so.
Thank you also for your continued financial support to the parish to keep our bills paid. Your help is appreciated.
All we can do is follow guidelines in all we do as best as we can during these difficult times.
Kind regards to all.
Pat.
The role our pets play in our lives cannot be underestimated. I know that from living alone my two little cats continue to bring a smile to me everyday. I often say about life

Enjoy it while you’ve got it”
It can change in a flash at any time.

Hi All,
Thank you for your continued support during this time of Covid-19. It is sad to see the numbers diagnosed with Covid-19 rising continually as we continue in another phase of lockdown. All I can say is that we look out for one another and find ways of keeping in touch.
The big subject I’m hearing of is ‘Mental Health’. Mental Health can be helped by keeping in touch and calling on one another within the rules of lockdown.
Next Sunday in our online Mass on Facebook Live we remember all who are laid to rest in our cemeteries here in Kilmichael and all over the world as our community is now world wide.
May they rest in peace.
Kind regards and stay safe.

30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
DON’T FORGET CLOCKS GO BACK
Hi All,
At the Sunday online Mass I will be remembering all those that are buried in our cemeteries here in Kilmichael and across the world. We all have relatives buried in cemeteries all over the world. I think of a great-grand uncle of mine, a priest Fr. Pat Collins who went to work in Australia sometime in the 1920’s who is buried in Goulburn, Australia after being drowned while crossing a swamp on his horse. He was a very young man.
Here in Kilmichael, we always celebrate a Novena of Masses from the 1st to 11th November for all our dearly departed. This year I will say them on line with a 10am Mass every morning starting 1st November to 11th November. You can include your dearly departed by dropping the names in a the Parochial House with your offering, by post or by email to news@kilmichael.org
For the month of November I will remember all our deceased at every Mass.
On Friday morning, 6th November at 10 am, I will remember all those who died from the parish or connected to the parish and all those who died in the past 12 months. You can pass on the names of those by dropping them in at the Parochial house or by email to news@kilmichael.org.
Kind regards and stay safe.
Pat.

FEAST OF ALL SAINTS
Hi All,
I hope you are all keeping well. I am very grateful for all the support I get through the means of the Facebook Live Masses. We would all be lost only for it. It has opened us up to a world wide congregation and I’m ever conscious of it and wonderful that we can use it. When all of this is over, Facebook will have to continue in some form or another.
This week marks the beginning of November with the Feast of ‘All Saints’. We would traditionally have our Novena of Masses for our dearly departed. This year that will continue on Facebook Live every morning at 10 am. On Friday morning, 6th November, I will remember all those who passed away in the past 12 months connected with the parish I will also remember all those who passed away in the past 12 months that you can remember. I ask that you light a candle with me on the day for them wherever you are.
The Novena will continue until Tuesday, 10th November. If you would like to remember anyone send on their names by post, email (news@kilmighael.org) or drop them into the Parochial House with an offering if you can.
We will continue to remember all our dearly departed right through the month of November.
Kindest regards and prayers.
Pat.

I hope you are all keeping well. Thankfully we are back to public Masses again yet in somewhat limited numbers to a maximum of 50 in each church per Mass.
This weekend:
Masses as before 8.15 pm on Saturday night and Sunday at 9.25 am and 10.00 am in Johnstown and 11.30 am in Toames.
Next weekend:
I will add an extra Mass – on Saturday at 10 am in Cooldorrihy This extra Mass is on a trial basis to see how it works. I am looking for help to sanitize the seats between the 9.25 am and 10.00 Mass in Johnstown. I will be making every effort to accommodate people and keep the Masses as short as possible with a focus on the Eucharist.
I am planning to put on extra Masses for Christmas. More details to follow.
The Offertory Envelope Boxes are available in the three churches this weekend. I have divided them out between the churches The churches will be open after Mass in Toames and Johnstown until 5 pm each Sunday up to 3rd January. Cooldorrihy church will be open from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm on Sundays.
If anybody has not received a box and would like to get one, please email news@kilmichael.org or contact myself or Eileen.
Kind regards and blessings.
Pat.

Hi All,
I am now publishing the Christmas Mass Programme for 2020. A bit of a change from previous years given the times we are in. Between Christmas Eve and Sunday, 27th December you will have a choice of 15 Masses to attend. I ask you as always to use your common sense. If you arrive at one of the churches for Mass and you feel there are too many inside, look at your watch and go to the next Mass. All Mass times are on Newsletter, Facebook and Parish Website and on posters on the church gates. Please note the change of times for the weekend of 26/27 December.
The Offertory collection on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is for myself, the Priest of the Parish for my own income, I thank you for your generosity.
I will take the following week off from Masses until Friday, 1st January and will celebrate 10 am Mass in Cooldorrihy and on Facebook Live.
The Kilmichael Christmas Card Masses will be offered on Saturday/Sunday 2nd/3rd January for all those intentions.
A new facility has been added to our Parish website www.kilmichael.org
and is called a “DONATE” button where you can donate to the parish. There are three options:
1. The Parish and its upkeep
2. Myself personally as the Priest of the Parish
3: The Dioceses and its upkeep.
This is a new initiative being promoted by Bishop Fintan and it being rolled out across the Dioceses.

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Hi All,
I hope you are all doing OK on the run up to Christmas. I appeal to you all to be careful and sensible as you plan to enjoy the Christmas festivities as we prepare to celebrate the Birth of Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
This weekend, we publish the timetable of Masses for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, St. Stephen’s Day and Sunday, 27th December. It is very difficult to please everyone so I have tried to give a good variety of Masses for everyone. As I said last weekend, if you feel there are too many in the church, stay outside or go to the next Mass.
Kindest regards to everyone,
Pat.
